If you want to try Strathmill as a single malt, you’ll need to look at independent bottlers. The distillery barely puts out anything as single malt, but sells almost everything to the blenders. Strathmill is, for example, the fingerprinit malt in the popular blend J&B. This single cask was bottled by the German company C&S Dram Collection and was already released in 2014.
Sweet nose on toffee and chocolate. Nice notes of hazelnuts and walnuts. A bit floral. No fruit as such, bar maybe a hint of pineapple on the barbecue. My experiences with Strathmill haven’t been the best so far, but this is one quite alright, despite the fact that it’s not very complex.
It’s arrival is quite sharp, but once the saliva glands have done their job, I get notes of grapefruit, pineapple, walnuts and quite some bitterness as if from quinine. Softly spiced. Again, quite alright.
The finish is medium long, honeysweet with some pepper.
I may have been prejudiced in the past, but need to un-check that box, for this was quite pleasant. Thanks, Bart!
