Oh, my... another single pot still and again at cask strength. They're going hard at Teeling. This is a whiskey that matured on Virgin American Oak, which probably means that we are going to get a spicy pot still whiskey. It was bottled – at almost 63% – for the Dutch online shop Drankdozijn. I'm curious.
Delicious fruity nose, quasi tropical, on citrus fruit and apricots, peach, candied pineapple and creamy coconut milk. This is immediately very inviting and pleasant. After a breather in the glass, there is still some white chocolate involved and something that reminds me of puffed rice. Beautiful!
On the palate it is more of the same and I am amazed by the integration of the alcohol. I expected it to be too hot, but it's not. Sure, it’s a sturdy fellow with its almost 63% (at what percentage of alcohol would it have gone into the cask, I wonder), but I don't feel the inclination to add water to it. Very fruity (albeit slightly less tropical than on the nose) with a beautiful, but delicate spiciness of the wood. Very good.
The finish is medium and satisfying, albeit a bit spicy.
Another gem from Dublin if you ask me. About 83 EUR at Drankdozijn. A sister cask was bottled for the Whisky Club Luxembourg. So, let's try it right away.
