- Brand: Templeton Rye
- ABV: 40%
For a long time, this rye whiskey was actually produced at MGP (Midwest Grain Products), an industrial distillery that distills to order. But recently Templeton has built its own distillery in Templeton, Iowa.
The nose is pleasantly soft and slightly fruity. Think blueberries, cotton candy and marshmallow. A handful of nuts. Brown bread and wood with a slightly floral touch. Purple appears in my head.
It is oily and sweet. Very sweet, even. Again berries and cotton candy, but now also Haribo bears and red lace candy. The rye now provides some nice herbs, which gives it some weight and depth. Gets warm.
The finish is rather short and remains soft until the deathbed.
This is already much better than the small batch I tasted three years ago.
Perhaps it’s better because (maybe) Templeton stopped using artificial flavouring in their rye. Maybe. I don’t know if they still use it or not.
