- Brand: The Irishman
- ABV: 43%
The Walsh Whiskey Distillery was recently rechristened Royal Oak Distillery. The distillery came about with the fortune that was made, and still being made, with the popular whiskey The Irishman. Today I’ll try their 12 years old that was released in 2017.
Very sweet and candy-like nose on apricots, peach and nuts with an undertone of pastry. Aniseed and a bit of ginger. Soft and fruity with a hint of stale ale. Not so bad.
Pretty light on the palate , but tasty and sweet. A tad too sweet to my taste. Soft spiciness, again, with overripe fruit and walnuts, caramel and honey and a slight bitterness as if from a grape pith. Reminds me a bit of young Bushmills, in all honesty. It just might be.
It could have done with a slightly longer finish, in my book.
Flawless, unless you do not have a sweet tooth. Very accessible and will probably work like a charm in a cocktail. Around €45.00.
