Well, the marketing team has certainly done a good job. This is truly a "gentile dram". I find it quite enjoyable when I want a drink without all the attention required by an expensive, complex bottle. It is also very nice to have around for guests who do not normally drink whisky.
The nose is nice and full, promising a sweet, malty, caramel taste. The palate is as advertised with a subtle smokey, medium finish. Very drinkable. Its short fall is a lack of complexity on the palate. I find this bottle particularly attractive since my local shop tends to regularly knock $20 off the ~$45 price. At that price, Tomintoul will most likely be a regular in my cabinet.
