CASK is a series from Gordon & Macphail. It contains single malt at – doh – cask strength. In this case a Tormore that was distilled on the 15th September 1994 and bottled on the 17th of May 2007, so a bit shy of 13 years. It matured on first fill sherry butts.
Good nose! Loads of sherry in the guise of caramelized fruit, nuts, figs with a hint of nougat and honey. Chocolate too. Nicely seasoned with camphor and cinnamon. Oxo! A pinch of salt. Balsamico? Complex!
It caresses the tastebuds, silky soft. A wonderfully sweet dram with loads of spices. Cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. Honeysweet with a sour touch. Orangettes. Plums. Touch of coconut and a wonderfully fresh twig of mint. The oak takes care of a slightly drying and bitter note.
The finish is warm on spices and oranges.
I admit, I was not expecting much. But this is one helluva whisky! Not a swimmer though, so be careful when you add water.
