Nose: The grassy and spicy rye jumps right out at you, followed by licorice and vanilla.
Palate: Firm, as the rye still has control. A bid oily. The sugars appear mid-palate and are followed by vanilla and oak.
Finish: Dry and spicy.
Notes: For around $12, this is an amazing bargain. I've always been a fan of Very Old Barton 6 yo (86 Proof) and was curious as to what the higher proof would do my old favorite. Initially, there was little difference, but as the tasting and nosing progressed I noticed that the 100 Proof version lacked the interplay of rye and corn that the 86 Proof displayed. A bit one sided, I think. This whiskey is not widely distributed, but it is one to seek out, especially if you are in Kentucky.
All I have to say id this is one of Kentucky's best kept secrets. no better bang for the dollar. It's cheap or should I say "economical". if you'er looking for a good taste that doesn't cost a lot and is smooth as silk this is made for you. how about we talk about some bottom shelf whiskey that should be at least mid shelf or maybe even top shelf. If you like bourbon you'll like this.
