I confess, I have no idea what Mizen Head means, but this Irish single malt was released by West Cork Distillers. It was matured on bourbon casks and then got a finish on bodega sherry casks.
Sweet, mildly bitter and very herbal nose on all kinds of berries and plums, orange liqueur, over infused tea and pear drops. Licorice and rhubarb marmalade. Tasty, but reminds me more of a liqueur than of a single malt.
Light and oily on the palate. Dried fruit, nuts, ginger, bitter and sour white berries, wood and caramel. All in all this is quite pleasant, but quite alcoholic at the same time.
The medium long finish is pretty piquant on ginger and white berries.
Pleasant whiskey, but tasted blind this might have been mistaken for a plum liqueur. I again thank my buddy Benny who provided me with the sample.
