Whisky Shipment to Austria?

So I have a good friend outside Vienna that I would like to send some American whisky for his birthday. Alas, I am in the United States and it has been a long time since I last lived in Europe so I am not familiar with mail order whisk(e)y. I had wanted to send something via the German company Whisky Shop but they only send within Germany. Can somebody recommend a reputable company with a good selection of American whiskey to send to Austria? I would prefer a German speaking company (i.e., in Germany, Austria or Switzerland) but suppose a firm in the UK would be fine as well if they ship to the continent.

Hi @JeffC , I would try www.grandwhisky.at, www.potstill.org and www.weinwelt.at. These are my sources when I buy online. Grand Whisky and Potstill have probably a better selection of American whsikeys. I hope you find what you're looking for! Cheers

The best Whisky shop in Vienna is Potstill on Strozzigasse. 8th District I believe... but they have a pretty great selection of American whiskies if I remember correctly.

potstill.org check it out. I think it is just what you want.

Thanks guys, I seem to recall Potstill in the 8th district from when I lived in Vienna as for awhile I lived in the 8th district but at the time several years ago was a beer drinker (Puntigamer, Hirter, Zipfer, Fischerbrau). Prices are unusual from an American perspective, the American whiskey easily costs twice what it costs here but the Scotch whisky is close to if not less expensive, guess that is to be expected. Alas, Grand Whisky is the only store that has the bottle I was seeking for my friend so I will order from there.

@JeffC I do not know if you still may be interested in this, however I recently found two other websites that do whisk(e)y shipment in Austria: www.weinturm.at and www.whisky-expert24.de. Both have a remarking collection of American whiskeys.

@JeffC It's all about Puntigammer. When I was in the states, I really never was a huge beer drinker, but when I am here in Germany/Austria/Switzerland, while I am a whisky drinker primarily, I do enjoy my beers.

@OCeallaigh sticking with what the locals do best is always a good course of action and it is hard to beat the beer in the German speaking part of the world. I spent several months in the Rheinland and I also developed a taste for the Riesling Kabinetts and to a lesser extent the Spatleses.

Unfortunately my overall experience with trying to order was extremely frustrating. Some cites were not set up to take credit card payments and only took payment through a Austrian or German banking account. Some of the cites would not let me set up an account with a US address. After spending about 4 hours, I just gave up in frustration. I'm sure it would work with a European address and/or German/Austrian banking account with prepayment through your BLZ and Konto Nr but without that I was really ready to pull my hair out. I ended telling my friend what and where to get something and told him I would have a few bottles packaged for his suitcase the next time he comes to visit me.
