Widow Jane is a micro-distillery in Brooklyn NY. Their water source is pure limestone mineral water from the Widow Jane Mine in Rosendale NY. That's about all I know about the distillery; this bourbon is 8 years old, barrel # 454 and was bottled in 2014. Thanks to @cpstecroix for abandoning this heel to me last week!
The colour is a medium copper. On the nose I get tobacco, raisin, wood smoke, toffee, black cherries, apple skins and chocolate. Despite the complexity, the nose if fairly muted - and muted even more with water.
Quite fruity on the palate, with more cherries, blood orange and rum-raisin. Soft mouthfeel, but quite oaky. Water adds mint and sage to the mix. Quite nice, easy to drink.
The finish is bitter but deep with herbs, pencil lead and wet leather. It's a nice bourbon, nothing spectacular - easy to drink while also revealing quite a bit of depth. I definitely want to try other whiskies from this distillery.
I just tried cask 642 (also 8 years old) and it seems to be quite similar to what you tasted. Truth be told, I am a fan now. This is quite interesting. True, the nose started off somewhat closed, but given some hand warmth and time to air, it opens up nicely. Fruity and even a bit candy-like, this is a very quaffable bourbon indeed.
