My first scotch experience, some 20 odd years ago, was an unpleasant one in the form of a Famous Grouse on the rocks. I'm not sure if it was the booze, the ice, or the attempt to drink it in big careless gulps, but it was clear to me that, at the time, I wanted nothing more to do with it.
While researching a bottle to be given as a Christmas gift a few years ago, my eyes were opened to the wide variety of styles and finishes, and it occurred to me that it might be time to give it another chance.
20 years later, and I now get it... If someone had told me back then that there was a 'right' way to drink it, and that every scotch was different, I think I'd be much further along on this journey...
