@Rovaben, you might have success with a Miltonduff bourbon cask, Glenlivet 21 Archive, or Amrut Single Cask unpeated or Bourbon Cask. I see you own Nadurra 16, does that come close to what you seek?

An old Glenturret or Glen Keith would be just what you are looking for, I think. Either bourbon matured or refill-sherry cask. 20years +

@paddockjudge yeah I still have the nadurra, I'd love something that comes close to it!

@Rovaben If you can find it - the Balvenie 15 yr Single Barrel is very similar.

Yes, you should like the Balvenie 15yr single barrel (older, pre 2013 edition, ex-Bourbon cask). I wouldn't say it's particularly 'full', but a fine dram.

A few more I would consider would be the the Arran 14 yr, and Glengoyne 12 yr.

I'd thought I'd give a small update! I've tried: Glenlivet nadurra 16: absolutely amazing, I decided to get another bottle to save for later. This is really what I was searching for, fresh, full, rich, just perfect. Glenlivet 15 french oak: really, really nice. It comes close to the nadurra in how much I like it, but compared directly it is noticable that the nadurra 16 is still a lot better. Oban 14: I definitely liked it better then most, but it is a bit dry for my taste, definitely the finish is very dry. Glengoyne 10: just doesn't strike me as particularly good, not bas though, just not for me. Arran 14: I liked it, just not enough to get another bottle, my evaluation switched a lot based on the moment. One moment I found it really subtle and nice, another moment I found it a bit harsh and lacking character.

Next up to try: Nadurra first fill selection One of glenfiddich: 15 distillers edition / 15 solera / 14 rich oak

@Rovaben. I think you will like the Glenfiddich Distillery Edition, it's in the same league as Nadurra. Rumour has it that it may be disappearing so get it soon. Cheers.

The Glenfiddich DE has been aged in Oloroso casks as well as Bourbon casks. Excellent SM and a decent price. Closest I could come to the Nadurra 16 would be Auchentoshan Valinch 2011,younger but along the same profile.

@Astroke. What's the ABV on the Valinch? It sounds like something I should try.

Astroke replied

@BlueNote Valinch 2011 is 57.5% ABV. May not be easy to find anymore. There was a 2012 release as well but I have never tried it. Was priced very reasonably as well.

Cheers

@Rovaben I would definitely agree with others here, get your hands on the Bunnahabhain 12yo or Glenlivet Nadurra 16yo. At least from the shops I go to in Colorado, USA still carries the Nadurra 16yo. However, seeing that you are located in the Nederlands, I am not sure if it would be available in your area. I cannot recommend any of the other Nadurra expressions since I haven't tried them. There is a hint of Sherry in the Bunnahabhain 12yo, but it is just a hint. There are other flavors in the nose and taste so the sherry influence isn't so dominant. From an interview (I saw) with a Bunnahabhain rep, he stated that the 12yo is 25% Ex-Sherry and 75% Ex-bourbon cask.

If this still doesn't appeal, then my best advice for Full and Rich (what ever that might imply) I like the Redbreast 15yo. Non-chilled filtered and cask strength, single pot still whiskey, you can't go wrong.

Thanks for more advice!

I actually just bought another bottle of nadurra 16, will save it for a special something ;) I love it

The bunnahabhain has been named a few times, after your reply it is definitely on my shortlist!

@Rovaben I just finished my first evening dram, which happened to be the Bunnahabhain 12yo. I am moving towards the Sherry matured whisky (so I won't suggest it since you said no sherried like Abunadh.) HA. I am now moving to my second dram, which will be the GlenDronach 15yo Revival.

By the way, have you tried the Redbreast 15yo SPSW? Another question, how much did you pay for the Nadurra 16yo? With the speculation of its extinction, I (like others) are afraid prices are going up. Glad that the Bunnahabhain 12yo made your short-list.

@ajjarrett , from what I've seen (in the American Midwest), the retail prices on Nadurra 16 are just whatever the retailer happened to price it at when it was last available, as they wait for the stock to clear out. I haven't seen any ridiculous "rare and discontinued!" price jumps (yet).

I bought one for the stash at ~$70.

@OlJas That's good news. That is the same at the store I go to in Denver, Colorado. I am watching the prices though in case there are subtle signs that there will be a jump in price. At the same time I am trying to buy as much as I can with the help of my parents who also enjoy it as well. HA!

These days you never know if it is rumors or the proverbial writing on the wall that comes out to be true in the end. Nothing wrong with having some in storage for future consumption.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, keep some in store because it might never come back! I got my first nadurra for €65 now I payed €75 but its supposed to be a better bottling.

@Rovaben I am assuming you are referring to the Nadurra 16yo, correct? If not, which expression were you referring to? I still have not tried any other Nadurras yet. I have to find a place that either gives samples or were I can just by a small dram and try before I buy.

I think Glenlivet has done to the 16yo Nadurra the same that they have done with their 12yo, moved it to the North American market (primarily the US) and slowly phased out sales in Europe and the UK. But that is just a guess.

Yes, I was talking about the 16 year old.

Anyone reading this has experience with the nadura first fill selection? I tried it yesterday, it seems to have a really bitter tangy taste, it is not nice in such a way that I would think it is a bad bottle... I first thought it was me reacting to the high abv (63). But adding water definitely made the taste worse..

A shame, it was quite expensive, I will give it some time to breath and hope it improves.

A small update for people searching for information about the nadurra first fill selection. I opened mine about 6 weeks ago, see my thoughts above. I now tasted it again and the bitterness is mostly gone and I like it a lot better already, Ill give it dome more time. 63 abv is a bit to much for me though.

I also tried glengoyne 10, i like it, but nothing special (arran 14 but also the glenlivet 15 french oak are definitely better)

I tried the springbank 12 cs, this just might be the best whisky I tried up till now, absolutely amazing! But differs a bit from my initial question.

The ones I'd like to try before moving to another flavour profile:

Redbreast 15 Balvenie 12 single barrel Bunnahabhain 12

Maybe one of the glenfiddich's mentioned earlier, but some reviews mention them being a bit watery, opposite of what I want.
