At the end of last year, Belgian bottler Double-V (because both strongholders' family names start with a V) launched a dirty and therefore great Bunnahabhain Staoisha and this 10-year-old Ardmore. We taste the Ardmore. Nice detail: it matured in a barrel on which previously Laphroaig used to mature, the firmly peated Ileach. That will undoubtedly have had a lot of influence on this Ardmore.
On the nose it is a mix of dirty notes like soot, peat and shoe polish versus fresh and fruity notes like apples and pears with a hint of green banana, pineapple and vanilla. The smokiness is perfectly dosed.
Full-bodied and perfect in terms of drinking strength, really. There is no need for water. Sweeter than the nose announced with vanilla and malt sugars and some white fruit, supplemented with quite smoky notes that may be partly due to the cask. Whatever the case, this is absolutely delicious.
The finish is long, smoky, sweet and the best part of this (very good!) malt.
A bottle will cost you about 85 EUR. Recommended! Thanks for the sample, Manu.
