Auchroisk – pronounce o-thrusk – is a rather unknown distillery in Speyside, founded in 1974. She produces predominantly for blends such as J&B and Johnnie Walker. You will not find Auchroisk as a single malt in abundance. There is only a Fauna & Flora bottling, a Singleton version and a Special Release by Diageo. 2012 also saw the oldest Auchroisk ever put to market, a 30 year old. We are trying a 13 Year Old single cask that was just released.
The nose is malty and somewhat mineraly, but not very fruity, which comes as a bit of a surprise. I get some honey, toffee and hints of brown sugar, the graeffe variety. Dried coconut. Biscuits and tea. Clean and slightly creamy.
It is very creamy on the palate and does show a fruity side now. Citrus and apricots. A touch of bitterness. Licquorice and aniseed. Cold, green tea. Sand biscuits.
The finish is medium long and drying.
A fairly pleasant Speysider, but I expected more fruit. Good, no more no less. Thanks, René, for the sample.
