A friend told me of a camping trip several years ago in Glencoe, Scotland. He and his buddies were holed up in the only pub in town. After several rounds they noticed a dusty bottle behind the bar named "Glencoe". They asked for a round. The barkeep said, "You're not ready for Glencoe" and refused to pour any for them.

While in Loch Fyne Whisky last week I noticed a bottle and snagged it. I have to say Glencoe is the finest blended whisky I've ever tasted, including Johnny Walker Blue. Don't let the lack of popularity fool you. If you see this world class blend, one that rivals single malt, buy it and enjoy.

Nose: Malt, clean and a hint of honied spice Mouth: Spicy, oily and delicious Finish: long linger with intense malt aroma through the sinuses.

Overall: This won't last long on my shelf.

Ok, Wodha, I'll bite. What did the barkeep mean by "You're not ready for Glencoe"? Did he think it was too strongly flavoured for them, or...?

Maybe due to the high ABV? Most bars, the ones I frequent at least, don't really have whiskies with an ABV above 43-46%. Anyway, intriguing review, another one added to the wishlist.

I think the barkeep meant these young men weren't experienced enough whisky-wise to appreciate Glencoe. I also think they were drunk and he was cutting them off. I like the story though, either way.

Hi Wodha. What a nice review. Of course he meant it like you said and this makes this story very enjoyable. Seems this dram is reserved for people who are willing to suffer and breaking through obstacles to gain the right to be served this special one :)

Sláinte!
