This was BenRiach 1994 18 year old, the Tawny Port Finish specially selected and bottled for Finland. Bottled October 2012, cask number 3585 and bottle number 102 of 301.
Surprisingly a pretty straight forward but still a good one for my taste. Sophisticatedly smoky and dry. Not too dry to keep the palate tasty enough for me.
Unsurprising might be the only negative thing I can come up with BenRiach 18 yrs for Finland. That's still not a big flaw, if even a flaw at all. I guess you automatically presume to have a roller coaster ride of taste with special bottling...
BenRiach 1994 18 yrs Tawny Port Finish is like Rushmore (or almost any Bill Murray movie) – sophisticated yet dry with a salty and smoky edge in it.
Nose: Salty and sour sea air with sophisticated smoke. Delicately crisp and fruity.
Taste: Sour and a bit fruity with salty smoke. Like tasting dry berries in a shoreline.
Finish: Dry at first, then a bit sweet at the end. Different types of currants, reds and blacks.
Balance: Not a complex one but a praiseworthy dram that manages to deliver a touch of smoky sea air in the forests of Speyside.
