QV.ID, the specialized drinks shop in Huldenberg (Belgium) went it's own way in 2009 and Koen and Ingrid have since then put their shop on the map with a great assortment of wines, beers, gin and much more. We are interested in their whisky of course. Koen is specialized in independent bottlings and has the largest selection from the German bottler Malts of Scotland in Belgium. QV.ID now celebrates their 5th anniversary with a special bottling from the aforementioned MoS: a BenRiach 1991 at cask strength.
I have only just poured it and already the room is filled with fruity summer scents. Quince, coconut, Granny Smith, white peach and gooseberries. Soft honey. A bit of dried grass. Almond paste. After a few moments it becomes very sweet on pineapple and melon. Lovely. Pears are the main aroma, though.
It is quite mouth coating and fresh. Vanilla and honey arrive first, to be gobbled up by the fruit. Some citrus kicks in. Grapefruit? Softly spiced on white pepper, ginger and liquorice. Mildly floral and a little zesty.
The finish is wonderfully long and spicy and brings a smile to your face.
Great BenRiach, fruity and spicy. Nice selection by Koen and Ingrid. The bottle can only be obtained through their store for 115 EUR. In November their webshop opens!
