A BenRiach of a quarter of a century old, that's something I will take my time for. Liquid Treasures bottled these in their so-called 'Retro Series', with matching retro label. It is a single hogshead that yielded 246 bottles, although dropped (or reduced?) to 45.6%.
Light and summery nose on all kinds of yellow fruit with a cartload of vanilla, some buttercups, elderflowers and citrus fruits, but at the same time also a pleasant touch of menthol and even a hint of peat in the background. Fresh!
The body is on the light side. On the palate it is even sweeter than on the nose. And very candy-like. This reminds me of citric acid candy, mixed with Haribo bears. Vanilla galore, but also lemon and elderflower juice. This is not complex, but neither is it boring. You just have to take your time for it. There is plenty going on.
The finish is a bit on the short side, remains sweet (and is now gradually going a bit over the top) and gently seasoned.
Ideal summer dram. Roughly 230 EUR.
