Nose: Peat reek with some tar , which gives way to fruit after the initial heavy aromas are lessened. Apple, banana peel. Vanilla.
Palate: Massive peat avalanche with pepper. Starting sweeter then getting dry and more woody with accentuated pepper. On the second wave we get back to the fruity notes : apples and hints of banana.
Finish : Lots of smoke. Dry peat. Pepper.
This one is an excellent example of peated Benriach. Lovely cask, and great balance and interplay between the fruit and the peat and smoke, with lovely spiciness of pepper. I really like this one, and IMHO it’s the best single cask by SCN so far. 1 point more than the Kilchoman i reviewed late December. I am told it was a hit on the whisky fest NY where it was first showcased, and no wonder it was. keep up the good work guys!
