Feis Ile bottlings are no longer the exclusivity of Islay producers. Quite a few bottlers jump on the bandwagon with great eagerness. This Bowmore from 1999 was released for Feis Ile 2016 in Douglas Laing’s Old Particular series.
Very soft, almost delicate nose with a lot of sweetness on the left and some maritime notes on the right. Apricots, stewed apples and some vanilla under a blanket of soft peat. This is almost a feminine Bowmore!
It is very soft on the palate as well. First sweet on apricots and apples, then some bitter oranges, but the peat smoke and spiciness is much bigger than the nose promised. Lady Bowmore starts to rock! Very feisty and pleasant.
In the finish, which might have been a bit longer in my opinion, I get more spices like ginger and pepper, but it does die a soft and very sweet death.
Lovely, delicate Bowmore that was sold back then for 150 EUR, but is now hard to find.
