QV.ID, a Belgian retailer, already worked it’s way into the spotlight with prior bottlings under their own label. The first was a 27 Year Old Caol Ila (I’ll be tasting that one very soon), the second a 28 Year Old Port Ellen (which I’m very much looking forward too, especially given the fact that it’s already becoming the stuff of legend, it would seem). A few weeks ago, QV.ID put their third bottling on the shelf in their store. If you know that the cask was selected by former Malt Maniac Luc Timmermans and Dominiek Bouckaert – aka the Whiskyman – then you already know you’re in for a treat.
Ah… now that is a good nose. All Islay elements are here (seaweed, brine, peat), but it’s also soft as farmer’s butter and blessed with loads of fruit, especially lemon and banana. Some vanilla as well. Fresh and crisply, feisty and complex. Merrymaker nose!
On the palate, this Bowmore is a sledgehammer of tastes. The peat is omnipresent. Quite grassy but also sweet with Werther’s Original, lime/lemon and quite a bit of salt and white pepper. Quite bitter towards the end. Kinine? It dries the mouth completely. Merrymaker taste!
The finish is long on lime and brine.
Very nice Bowmore, especially the nose. The cask was shared with the Dutch whiskysite.nl. You can pick up your bottle in Huldenberg (Belgium) for 95 EUR. I didn’t think twice.
