I like Bruichladdich for their dedication to natural colour and no chill-filtration. Visited the distillery a couple of years ago on a whirlwind tour of Islay, (when I actually went to all eight distilleries in a single day - that was fun!). That's when my profile pic was taken.
I think they overdo the cask finishes though and their range becomes a bit too bewildering. But this is simple straight down the line 15YO release.
It's very light on the nose - grassy, cereal, nuttiness. Slightly sweet when deeply inhaled, with a bit of citrus.
Cereal flavours again on the palate but now with a touch of toffee and shortbread. But there is also a sharp tang - dare I say lemongrass? It leads to a certain astringency that is quite pleasant. Fairly dry with a bit of saltiness.
Now this may sound strange but the finish is quite refreshing - lemon and lime flavours linger.
It's nothing spectacular or amazing but this is what I'd call a relaxing dram. Put your feet up, watch a DVD or read a book with a glass of this in hand.
