The Belgian bottler The Nectar, recently rechristened The Nectar of the Daily Drams, got its own bottling in the Bruichladdich Micro Provenance Series. This 18 Year Old from 1992 was finished (at Laddie they say ACEd, meaning Additional Cask Enhanced) on a calvados cask. So I am expecting apples and pears.
The sweet smokiness on the nose is easily drowned out by apples and honey (no disadvantage, mind you). Loads of overripe banana too. Very creamy. Hardly any spices, bar some soft vanilla. It even evolves towards vanilla ice cream! Sherbet of apples! This is very sweet, but very inviting as well.
Unfortunately, the mouthfeel is very light, almost watery. Not a lot of body. But taste-wise it is still up there. Sweet on apples, tangerine and banana. The spices come out now and tingle on the tongue.
In the fairly long finish I get finger, liquorice, salt and peat.
Good taste, but a little too thin. Never thought I would have a Laddie as aperitif, but this one would be perfect for it.
