It's whisky to wow the senses.
Nose: all over the place. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a nose which addressed so many different aspects of a whisky compass. There is hickory BBQ smoke, a juniper and gin aspect, thrown in with HP sauce, nashi pear, PEAT SMOKE, pineapple, confectionary sweets and a herbal mint thing going on at 61.5% it’s pretty strong but not undrinkable. With water if anything more fruitiness and floral, less peat and fire, the water makes the whisky a bit cleaner and more accessible.
Pallet: with peat slowly purring in the background there’s sweet and salty butterscotch, nutty fudge, nashi pear again, peat building steadily all the while. With water just the same as the nose, all the flavours are still there but less nip and hottness
Finish: smoked nuts and hickory sauce, also some sweet tobacco, but this is 169ppm peat and the initial purr crescendos into an all might roar then slowly settles back to reveal smoking embers (no doubt your burning tastebuds), soot and ashes. With water same story as before, all the flavour none of the nip
Mark neat -8.7, with water 9.2
