I had tried this Bunna before at a chocolate and whisky pairing. And while it says 10 Year Old on the label, it is an 11 Year Old, for it was distilled in 2001 and bottled in 2012. I remember enjoying it with a bar of Bolivia Wild Dark Chocolate and Duffy’s Star of Peru Organic Chocolate. Let us see if he can also please without the South American chocolate.
The nose is very fatty. Smells like liquid baking butter in my glass. Then some hints of sauerkraut and citrus fruit. Not much else is happening on the nose, unless you are patient. Then quite some yellow fruit emerges. Apricots and peach. No peat to speak of.
The attack is rather weak, to be honest. Some citrus and even red fruit shines through on the palate. Strawberries. Midpalate a nice salty edge appears and the spices start to speak.
Fruity, warm, medium long finish.
Not bad (provided you are patient), but not earth shattering either. Ordinairy Bunna on sherry cask.
