The Angel’s Choice series by Malts of Scotland contains very old whisky, bottled in 350ml bottles. To keep them affordable (well, sorta…). This Bunna from 1966 was bottled in 2011. Just 88 half bottles, which says something about the rarity. It is approximately 45 years old, so I am expecting a fruit bomb.
Yup, right on the nose (pun intended). No surprise, but very pleasant nonetheless, of course. All kinds of tropical fruit like banana, oranges, papaya, passion fruit, pineapple and the likes. All of it drenched in honey. Some chocolate and loads of coconut… ah, you can see this one coming from a mile away, no? This is liquid Bounty! Some camphor, ginger and mint. What a nose!
More of the same on the palate. Nothing but tropical fruit, coconut included, but with a lovely spiciness giving it some oomph. Ginger in the lead, followed by nutmeg. Very nice indeed.
The finish, unfortunately, is rather short. Ginger and the return of banana quickly announce the death of this outstanding Bunna.
A bomb! Around 325 EUR fort his little baby, if you can still find it. Thanks, Koen!
