Nose: Do you like old sherry? I sure do. Plum jam and teak wood touched up with a fine lacquer varnish. Deep coffee, red currants, seedless strawberries (just go with it). Maduro cigars with oily wrappers. Whiffs of sweet malt underneath. (with water) Swims well enough to take a few gold medals. BIG. Coffee, sweet maduro, rich dark chocolate. Roasted cherries and spiced cakes. Yes!
Palate: Oh my. Classic dark and unsweetened. It makes me think of a chalky sauvignon blanc in the base. Leather and dry nuts. Old leather furniture. More of the same notes from the nose as well. (with water) Sweeter on entry and it takes a a turn flat, only before emerging into a sweet old coffee, residual bacon grease, and dry varnish. Delicious walnuts to boot.
Finish: Merges to a fine point, and even more smoke. Big throughout and very old, severe sherry, and just enough twinkle and sweetness to keep it moving along. A real treat.
