Duncan Taylor has a range of whiskies on the NC² label, which refers to 'non chill-filtered' and 'non-coloured'. This Bunnahabhain was distilled in 1997, hence I'm expecting a peated version, and bottled at the age of 12 years in 2010 at a cut strength of 46%.
The nose is peaty, surely, but not overly so. In fact, it's very soft. I get some ashes and tar, but also lots of sweetness such as toffee, lime and nougat with nuts. In the background, there's even a hint of olives.
It's completely mouthcoating. Peat is the dominant taste, followed by some oak. Nice balance. The smokiness does a wonderful pas-de-deux (ballet, anyone?) with the sweetness.
The finish is rather short on sweet peat.
A wonderful bottle from the NC² range, affordable hence bang for your buck.
