I got this sample from a whisky connoisseur cum bottler who decided not to market this Bunna under his own banner. Was I of the same opinion? Hang on, let me give it a go. It is very pale by the way.
The nose is sweet with a malty heart. Next to some white fruit, I also get some cod oil, bakery yeast and hints of mashed potatoes with white cabbage. Slowly but surely evolves towards Fruitella candy. It is actually quite new make like. Not bad, but really young.
It is oily and very sweet on the palate. It reminds me even more of new make now, to be honest. Apart from the malt, I also get some lemon and nuts. Pear drops. A mildly salty edge. Bit of liquorice. The typical ashes of peated Bunna (they also have unpeated after all) shine through nicely.
The finish is rather short and becomes somewhat bitter.
I thought it was quite alright, actually, but that is because I have a soft spot for new make. The cask has not yet imparted enough influence to market this as a single malt, I would say.
Find where to buy Bunnahabhain whisky
connoisseur cum bottler? Might give this a miss then.
