This is a very young Bunna, only 6 years old. It was bottled by the German Malts of Scotland for the 11th Whisky Live festival in Spa in February 2014, where it was sold for 60 EUR. It matured on a bourbon barrel and was bottled, as MoS is prone to do, at cask strength.
Very sweet nose on vanilla, honey and pear drops. The oak is also present from the start. This is very young, but not unpleasant. Surprisingly sweet, though. The vanilla extends into caramel. Touch of woodsmoke, but certainly not overpowering. Adding water brings out a feel of new make with a touch of peat.
It is surprisingly quaffable, despite the high ABV. The taste is a perfect continuation of the nose with loads of vanilla, caramel and pear drops. Well spiced, but it does remains a young animal. I do feel this Bunna is somewhat atypical. I hardly find any salt or peat on the palate, but mostly fruit and sweetness. Sturdy fellow, though. Diluted the peat and salt do appear, much to my preference.
The finish is long and spicy on dried fruit.
Nice, rather atypical – imho – Bunna. I quite like it with a teaspoon of water. Can still be found left and right.
