A Bunna for less than 35 EUR? You will have to look for the Macphail’s Collection then, a label of Gordon & Macphail that offers 8 Year Old single malts at a very friendly price. On this label ‘Heavily Peated’ is mentioned. Will this be a peat monster? Let us see.
Oh, yeah, this is a dirty Bunna on the nose! Wet earth, a bit of manure, mocha, old cheese and a hint of ferns. A touch of toffee. Soft peat. Slowly but surely turns a bit sour. Umami.
The arrival is soft, almost watery. Pity. But luckily the taste makes up for a lot. Sweet and sour with loads of peat (a lot more than on the nose). Fruity as well. I had almost no fruit on the nose, but now I get apples, pears, citrus and even some peach. Green banana? Very little, maybe.
Nice, medium to long finish on peat and sweetness.
Well, who would have thought? Such an affordable Bunna with depth. Wonderful!
