Lonach is known for its affordable malts. They can get the price reasonable by mixing underproof (and thus no longer possible to sell as whisky) and overproof casks to end up with a product that is still at an ABV above the required minimum. This Caperdonich is a gem from 1969.
Good nose with apple, mint, chamomile tea and vanilla. Something nutty and some mandarin. Hints of peat as well! Not really a fruit bomb, but pleasant nonetheless.
Nice body and an equally nice spiciness. The mandarins now take the reins, accompanied by oak and peppers. Honeysweet.
The medium long finish makes the oak speak even more, turning the malt a tad dry at the death.
Very nice Caper, although next to impossible to find nowadays. Thanks, Arnout!
