The Perfect Dram is a label from the German bottler The Whisky Agency. This 38 Year Old Caperdonich from the legendary year 1972 was bottled two years ago. It is being praised left and right? Let us see if it is in fact praiseworthy.
Kaboom! That is it! A Nose with capital N. Caper at its best indeed. An unparalleled fruitiness: apricots, mango, peach, pineapple, green banana, all very juicy and yellow (for lack of a better description). This makes my lyrical. The whole is wrapped in a great waxy jacket and softly spiced. Twig of mint, handful of coconut, hints of warm apple pie. Soft pepper and some nutmeg. Complex, anyone?
Despite the high ABV, it is perfectly drinkable. And not just the drinkable part is perfect, mind you. The fruit bomb continues on the palate, albeit somewhat more spicy. The oak raises its voice, but never shouts. The spices evolve towards cinnamon and liquorice. Do I detect a salty edge? My God, this is a complex dram.
It even remains fruity on the very long finish. Oh, the oak takes care of a midly drying quality, sure, but it never becomes oaky.
I have died and gone to heaven. The Perfect Dram is well chosen in this case. Long gone, or what did you expect? Thanks, Christof! The best Caper I have tasted so far.

This is a great review, Mark, of one of my preferred single malts! "I have died and gone to heaven" - will have to remember this one.
