Independent bottlers do like this malt from Dufftown, which is a very fruity and accessible Speysider. I taste one from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, called 'An Old Soul in New Shoes'. I frown for a moment, but don't dwell on the name for too long. Let me pour, smell, taste and – more than likely – enjoy.
Oh... that's strange. White chocolate, sun pits, chalk, lime, something of guimauve, icing sugar and butter. The crust of freshly baked white bread, caraway seeds and finally something of menthol. I didn't see this coming. But it's captivating to say the least.
Good body! Immediately mineral and sweet on cotton candy, pebbles, caraway and tail pepper, cereals with some green garden herbs and a hint of walnuts. Cotton candy – oh, I said that – and lime juice. A mix of mint and chamomile tea. Cough candy. Hardly any wood. Not bad.
The finish is long, freshly minty, and sweet with a pungent spiciness.
Atypical in my opinion, but certainly fun. Thanks for the sample, Gunther!
