Eagle Rare 17 Year Old

This Bourbon was distilled in Spring of 1993. It aged on the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th floors of warehouses I & K.

Nose: fresh oak, barrel char, really earthy, bread, grains, herbal, and lots of corn.

Taste: This is a very light bodied Bourbon especially for being 19 yrs old which this bourbon actually is instead of the 17 stated on the bottle. The corn reappears on the palate followed by lemon grass, anise, and mint.

Finish: rather soapy, with oak, anise again, and some grains, rye, and bread.

Overall it's rather simple. Not much is going on here. The Bourbon seems over oaked, very light weight, and one dimensional.

I started my BT Antique collection voyage with this 17 year old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. At 45% ABV, it is one of the weaker expressions in the Antique Collection (where some are way over 60, and even over 70%), but it’s a good one.

Nose: Sweet N’ spicy with some balsamic,Golden Syrup, and a nutty edge to it, as well as quite a bit of sweet pastries / dough. Palate: Butterscotch, Wood shavings, Cigar tobacco leaves, leather and dark tea , all engulfed in old wood. Finish : Wood, leather and bitter tea.

Bottom line:

This is a very nice Bourbon, quite thick, and not to alcoholic at 45% and quite sipable neat. It’s nothing amazing, or mind blowing, yet it’s well integrated, and it ages gracefully. If you like Bourbons, and you are willing to take one step into a more complex and older one, this might be a good starting point.
