For their 10th anniversary the German bottler Liquid Treasures released this 10 years old Fettercain. Love the label! The malt matured on a rum cask by the way.
The rum dominates the nose of this malt completely. Pineapple, banana, pink grapefruit, apricots and a hint of coconut milk. A tad waxy on candle wax. If I did not know better, I’d think I’m nosing a light rum. That doesn’t diminish the fact that this is a pleasant nose, but that might also be due to the fact that it’s a very hot summer’s day right now.
It’s quite waxy on the palate too, something I quite appreciate. The malt is again drenched in rum with all kinds of sugars, banana and pineapple, but also a weird yet pleasant salty edge. Grapefruit and white pepper, mirabelles and liquorice and some menthol for an extra fresh lift. The strength is fine, it does not need any water.
The finish is short to medium long on lemon cake and coconut milk.
Well, that was… special!
