My experience with Fettercairn is rather limited. I only had three so far. But what I will be tasting today is as good as impossible to find nowadays. This is an 8 Year Old Fettercairn that was bottled way back for the Italian market.
The nose is very grainy and slightly metallic. Silver polish. Malt. Peach and oranges with loads of floral elements. Lavendel? A touch of old bottle effect as well. Cannot be helped, I suppose, as this is an old bottle that has been open for quite a while. Far from earth shattering, but not totally unpleasant either.
Oily, almost syrupy, on the palate. Very malty, now. Something of stale beer even. The fruit is now of the dry variety (oranges, but also a lost fig) and a hint of honey. On the palate, I also get some OBE. Again that metallic edge, as if it was poured from a can.
The finish is medium long and mildly spicy with a touch of oak.
A nice drop of liquid history, to be sure, but not very outspoken. The OBE is not helping. I saw it last for around 180 EUR. Crazy.
