Golden Cask is a series of bottlings by House of Macduff. I previously tried a fantastic Bunna from them. This time, however, I am trying a 29 Year Old Glenburgie, that I purchased at the Whisky Festival for Independent Bottlers in Belgium.
A round nose with fresh notes of white fruit and icing sugar. Somewhat waxy even. Then the citrus kicks in as caramelized oranges. Coconuts? Hint of mint. Touch of vanilla. Nice nose.
Soft arrival that becomes spicy quite quickly. Pepper, mint, cloves, vanilla and ginger. The fruit is again mostly oranges, but there is a touch of dried pineapple in there as well. Almost zesty.
It remains sweet in the medium long finish, with just a touch of oak, but the alcohol shines through for a second there as well.
We may count ourselves lucky that this cask did not disappear into a blend – which Glenburgie usually does. Around 130 EUR.
