GlenDronach just presented its new batch of single casks, which were fine drams each. They made me look in my sample cabinet and lo and behold, I have two samples from 2011 releases. Oloroso Sherry Butt #1 and Oloroso Sherry Butt #2406. I did a quick head-to-head. Please find herewith the notes for cask number 2406.
The nose is not quite as sherried as I would have expected. This is actually quite fresh and sweet. Mostly gooseberries, but also pineapple cubes. Honey and a bit of caramel. The second layeroffers some roasted nuts and almond shavings. No need for any water here.
It is fairly soft and oily on the palate. Again, fresh. I get an images of lightly colored berries in my minds eye, instead of the expected dark fruit.
The finish is medium long with liquorice on the deathbed.
A nice, very quaffable GlenDronach.
