The story of the second release in the Experimental Series is a fun one. The 20 Glenfiddich ambassadors (hence the XX and fingerprint on the bottle) were given an assignment without any further instructions: put your name on five casks in the warehouse. The next day, they found the 5 cask samples on their desk with the instruction to select their favorite. On day three, Brian Kinsman presented them with a vatting of the twenty selected casks. The combination was 17 bourbon casks, two sherry casks and one port cask (which would marry for 4 months prior to being bottled). They say (sorry: tasted!) it and knew that had something good. The Twenty was born.
Pleasantly fruity and spicy nose on apples, pear, vanilla, barley sugars and creamy vanilla. Liquorice and delicate spices give it some oomph. Candyfloss? Almonds. Very pleasant indeed.
Ooh, this is good. And elegant mix of summery fruit and then the sherry notes kick in quite grandly. Caramelized orange peel, almonds, cinnamon and other sweet wonders.
Deliciously long finish, dark and sweet with a good note of oak.
Price-quality wise this is the best selection from the Experimental Series (so far).

Just perusing and I found this review. How did I miss this? That’s a pretty solid score from you, sir. I was thinking about getting one of these or a Glenfiddich 14 Bourbon Barrel; you may have swayed me...
