Glenlossie from the Speyside produces almost exclusively for the blending industry. You can count official releases on one hand (litteraly, there are 5). Hence this malt is not so well-known with a larger audience. Independent bottlers, however, are quite fond of Glenlossie. Hart Brothers released this 13 Year Old in 2012.

The nose is very fresh and summery on floral elements, lime juice, a truckload of vanilla and pineapple cubes. Very sweet. Add a hint of almond oil and a touch of oak. Very innocent, but ideal on a warm summer night.

It is still very sweet upon arrival, but also a touch piquant. I get some ginger, pepper and quite some baker’s spices. That makes it drier than anticipated. Caramelized lemon parts, gooseberries, vanilla… it even turns somewhat creamy. A bitter touch of oak lurks around the corner, but the sweet fruit keeps things in check.

It lingers quite a bit, actually. Nice, albeit quite dry finish.

On the nose, this is very easy going, but on the palate, it is a bit muscular… in its genre, to be sure. Card players’ whisky pur sang. With a price tag of only 55 EUR, this is a good deal.
