BYOB-C, or 'biopsy' or Bring Your Own Bottle Club, recently launched two releases that belong together, given that the labels form a beautiful whole. Anarchy of the Lads, it says on the labels. One bottle contains a 10-year-old Royal Brackla on sherry, the other a 12-year-old Glentauchers on sherry. Let's put the latter to the lips now.
Hey! This is funky! A lot of umami on maggimix herbs, half-decayed autumn leaves, burn ointment, peanut sauce, chicken satay and all presented in a cardboard box. That's a bit of a shock. But after five minutes of experimenting with both nostrils, I think I like it. But it takes a long time before I get anything from fruit. Think grapes and baked pears. The longer you leave it, the sweeter it becomes. I’m happy.
Good body. Nice and oily and mouth-filling. Now immediately sweet on dates and figs, a handful of caramelized chestnuts and a touch of mint. Much better than the nose promised, so that's fine.
The finish is rather short, but quite and charmingly sweet.
I was a bit worried by the nose, but it all turned out well. Bottle 71 of the 71 is here nicely showing off next to his brother with the same number.
