And the final Hanyu from tonight's line-up!
Nose: Engaging and surprising. Immediately on apricots, honey, vanilla, and licorice. The varnish note is almost plastic, but it's all good here. Almost a touch of flax oil, though it interacts in some way with the varnish. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's distinct. Just oodles of dried apricot, nectarine (with a bit of 'plump' in it), and a drop of mango. (with water) well aged rhum agricole with the dark sugar and salty rum tang. Leather, fine coffee. Figs and dark, dry dates. Chocolate liqueur.
Palate: Different at first blush from what the nose offered. The apricots are there, as is honey, diesel fuel, and a strong, but decent, bitterness. Coffee grinds in the deep, deep rear. Brutal at times, and not purely typical with the harsh notes, but I like it. (with water) Light and rather brutal still, but less pleasing that the diesel on the nose. Bitter toward the end. dark (not strong) rum, coffee, and bitterness.
Finish: smooth, though dark and fine coffee grinds. good, but the harsh bitterness of the finish distracts a bit. something at the end also of cocoa and over-cooked smores. B on the verge of a B+, but not quite there
