So this is a BARRELED Manhattan, made with rye whiskey and vermouth. Quick story behind the name: Utah wanted to be 36th and decisive congressional vote to repeal prohibition, and they did.
Really nice sweet, Christmas cake notes on the nose. Strong orange bitters appear as well as the vermouth shines through. Sweet on the palate, this is a very simple whiskey, but very refreshing and dangerously smooth. High West deserves big points for originality in my book!
Find where to buy High West whisky
Just bought this on a lark as I was getting a bottle of Rendezvous and thought I'd try this to see if was "poolside worthy". I'm a single malt guy, but occasionally drink Hendricks and soda (my very guilty pleasure; I avoid buying Hendricks as I will drink too much; lovely gin). Very interesting taste and definitely will be around when we open the pool. Poured it over several cubes of ice and initially reminded me of a minty gin and soda. After the ice melted some it became more like bourbon and Pepsi. I haven't tried it neat as it is supposed to be a cocktail and I want it chilled with ice. I can't really give it a grade since its a mix, but it is quite pleasant.
