I have searched high and low in my area to find a Whisky Club. Everyone I have asked said it sounded like a cool idea, but did not know of one. So, I have decided to start one from the ground up. For practice, I 'll be starting with two good friends and good ol' fashioned American bourbon (just so happens to be Bourbon Heritage Month). The bourbons on the table tonight will be Buffalo Trace, W.L. Weller 12 and Eagle Rare 10. I have made sure to have plenty of fresh Glencairn nosing glasses as well as an extra glass for each of my friends to take home. I also have 4 oz Boston Bottles ready to be filled with the remaining bourbon for my guest to pour in their new Glencairns. Lastly, I am putting together a small binder with dividers, so we can each store our notes for future reference. I hope at least one of the guys sticks with me on this. Both would be awesome. If neither of them stick with it, I'll chalk it up to a night of good practice.

I am off to the store for palate cleaning snacks and spring water.

....and if any of you are in the Houston, TX area, reach out to me through this website.

Doing it yourself is the best way to go. To find more participants I suggest talking up some of the better bartenders. The best ones may be interested in participating and may know some whisk(e)ys. There are also some bartenders who know that they should learn more and would be willing to do so. The big problem with getting bartenders over, though, is that they tend to work odd hours and can be hard to schedule. Tasting groups is defintely the way to go...whisk(e)y is not just about posting on the internet!

The first meeting was a success. My friends seemed to enjoy themselves and both vowed to return for a second round. We already have a forth guy in mind to invite. To keep costs low again, I think Scotch blends will be on the table next time.

@buoy37...Awesome to hear that the first event was a success! If it is available in your area, I would recommend Te Bheag as an awesome blended whisky...Talisker is very much in the malt component of the blend, with a nice sherry component lurking in there as well.
