- Brand: Jack Daniel's
- Type: American
- ABV: 64.5%
This one is Barrel No. 19-03648 from Rick No. R-11, bottled June 5 2019.
The colour is a dark reddish amber, maybe just a thin hair darker than the last one. On the nose there is a lot of woodsmoke, cigar box, black pepper, old leather and forest floor. Arugula when its just starting to go off in the bottom of your fridge. Creme caramel. Black liquorice with water. Pretty powerful but also relentlessly smoky.
On the palate it's pretty hot - again with really not much more than tons of charred oak. It's malty, with some mint in the background and tons of peppery spice (especially with water) but still this is surprisingly one note. I mean, I like the note. But this needs more layering.
On the finish this is very, well, oaky (getting a theme here...) - plus herbs, dark chocolate and something like a PX sherry note. And I thought the last one was powerful! This one goes full barrel right at ya. I can't say I dislike it, but side-by-side with the other bottling, there is no question. The 2018 is fruity where the 2019 is an oak-attack, especially on the palate. It still amazes me when two barrels are so incredibly different, though the ABV is the same (in fact, it's the same on all their Barrel Strength. Hm.) But the 2018 bottling wins.

@talexander thanks for your review. Some air time might relax this one, and maybe broaden it out a bit.
I was never very enthusiastic about Jack Daniel's until I met these Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof releases. It is not just the virtuous alcohol content that improves their merit. It's all about the barrel selection that goes into choosing these particular barrels.
