Our friends of The Finest Notes (a Belgian whisky club) have good taste. They already proved that with their Glen Keith bottling a few years ago – and more recently by asking me to host an Auchentoshan tasting at their HQ (just kidding). Now their next club bottling sees the light of day. The looked for a cask from the Far East, coming up with a Kavalan single bourbon cask #B100910007A. I got a little preview during the aforementioned tasting and decided on the spot that I wanted a bottle. Why? Read on! The nose is very powerful with loads of coconut, overripe banana and vanilla. It has quite a bit of shortbread, a single mango and some woodspice. Very aromatic. I can sniff this all day without feeling the urge to sip. But still… it has to be done. Oh, my! This is a powerhouse. Immediately very spicy on nutmeg, curry and a touch of cinnamon. Lovely body. Oily on the palate. Great mouthfeel. After the spices fade somewhat, the fruit emerges. Think mango, pears, coconut (coconut milk, maybe?), joined by a bitter touch from the wood. Great balance. The finish is bittersweet, quite zesty and very long. It leaves the mouth parched. Boy, o boy, those fellas from the Finest Notes are rightfully proud of this bottling. This looks good on your curriculum. Around 100 EUR, but I think you will have to be very fast indeed.

@Markjedi1, great review. I picked up a bottle at the distillery, along with some more goodies, still looking forward to popping it open.
Far East whisky aged in ex-Bourbon casks seems to acquire coconut in the profile a lot
