This Spring 2011 is a special vatting: 70% consists of 3 Year Old ex-bourbon, 30% is 4 Year Old ex-bourbon that was ACE'd for five weeks on oloroso sherry casks. Little proof can be found in the color, however, for this is a very pale whisky.
The nose is very soft with sweet peat and white fruit (pear?) and citrus. The sherry influence is absolutely absent and you'll be looking for the peat in near vain - that doesn't make is less good, though! Light ashes, too. Leave it for about ten minutes and the peat will be gone completely, leaving only pure vanilla.
On the palate, the peat is hardly discernable as well, but the tastebuds will be taken in by a whole array of sweet fruits. After a few seconds, the peat and sea salt start to speak. But the attack was rather weak... not what one would expect from Kilchoman.
The finish, medium in length, is very fruity once more.
Well... the nose wasn't bad, but the taste left a lot to be desired. The weak little brother? The Benjamin of the Kilchoman-family, I'd say.
