A very dark coloured malt, brown reddish colour in the bottle is hardly any lighter in the glass. The aromas are strong with treacle toffee and muscovado sugar like sweetness with some fruity plumy hints.
Not as smooth or full bodied on the palate as I was expecting considering the age and aroma profile, there is a rough edge with a touch of smoke and burnt toffee. The finish is bittersweet, long and enjoyable but with a slightly dusty tinge.
Not the greatest sherry bomb you’ll try, but if you like the style it packs plenty of punch. I get the impression this was probably a better whisky at a younger age.
