The label of this Laphroaig, bottled in 1983, says 'Unblended Islay Scotch Single Malt'. It was destined for the Italian market: 'imporatata da Franscesco Cinzano'. I got the sample from our Connosr member @lucadanna1985, and am very grateful for it as you'll soon understand. The color is a nice full gold and the beading is excellent.
The nose is less peaty than anticipated, but still a wonderful mix of freshly ground coffee beans, fresh cream, tropical fruits (think pineapple and peach), roasted brésilienne nuts and a whiff of smoke. This nose is truly maginificent.
Citrus and peat lead a whole cadre of tastes on the palate, consisting of Italian espresso, baked apples with nutmeg and saffron. The rear guard consists of herbal and grassy notes. Good, better, best! A wonderful whisky indeed.
The finish is lingering and warm, on herbal aromas and pepper.
What a great Laphroaig this turned out to be! I'm already a bit sorry I put this in first place of a line up of 8 Laffies to taste... If you do find one of these bottles today, be prepared to fork over between 400 and 500 quid for it. Ouch!

this beauty was indeed my way to say "sorry" about the underwhelming macallan 7 yo :) happy you loved it, I found it excellent too!
